Man who was twice arrested for domestic violence arrested for assaulting his wife again

A man who was twice arrested for assaulting his wife and released on bail has been rearrested for reportedly assaulting his wife again.

The suspect identified only as V.A, a Turkish Cypriot and a resident of Lefkosia was arrested on Thursday for physically assaulting his wife.

The incident happened at around 6:00pm on Wednesday Sept. 18 at his residence in Erol Kazım Andaç Street in Lefkoşa,

The suspect was brought to court on Thursday charged with assault.

Police in a court testimony said the suspect who got into an argument with his wife named only as M.G punched her in the face twice with his right hand, held her in his hands and beat her against the wall during.

The suspect was arrested on the same day following a complaint. His wife was taken to the Lefkoşa State Hospital, and a report was obtained stating that there were no signs of assault or force on her body.

Police said the suspect had been arrested twice in 2023, on April 16, 2023 and on May 23, 2023 for assaulting his wife and was released on bail. 

The police noted that there were several records of MG coming to the police to report but had not filed a complaint.

Police noted that the part of the investigation that the suspect could influence was completed and requested that he be released on bail with an appropriate guarantee.

The judge released the suspect on bail again on the condition that he is banned from traveling abroad until his trial, pay a cash bail of 15,000 TL, have a reliable guarantor who is a TRNC citizen sign a bail bond worth 500,000 TL and report to the nearest police station every two weeks.
