Man who tried to kill a student by driving his car into him for reportedly staring at his wife released on bail

A Turkish Cypriot man who was arrested for attempting to kill a student by driving a car into him for reportedly staring at his wife has been released on bail.

The incident happened in Hamitköy, Lefkosa at around 5:30 pm on Monday September 9  when the man named as F.K, drove his car into a student named as M.A.S for allegedly staring at his wife. 

The two men, then got into an argument which led to a fight. The police intervened and arrested both men. They were both taken to court on Tuesday Sept. 10.

Police told the court that F.K had a fight with M.A.S because he was looking at his wife which led to a brawl between the two as they hit each other on various parts of their bodies.

Police said F.K had attempted to kill M.A.S by driving his car into him and that M.A.S, deliberately threw a stone he picked up from the ground at F.K's vehicle causing the right front door window to break. Police said M.A.S, also punched F.K in the face, breaking his nose.

Police stated that F.K was arrested for “attempted murder,” “fight,” and “disturbance,” while M.A.S was arrested for “serious damage,” “intentional damage,” “fight,” and “disturbance”.

They were both brought back to court again on Friday and M.A.S was released on bail with a condition that he pay 20,000 TL while F.K was ordered to remain in custody for 3 more days.

The suspect F.K was brought back to court again on Monday Sept. 16.

Police said he was checked at the Barış Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital during this time and stated that the report regarding the suspect would come in 2 days, that the investigation was ongoing, but that the suspect could not affect the rest of the investigation, and requested that he should be released on bail with an appropriate guarantee.

The judge ordered the suspect to released on bail on the condition that he is banned from leaving the country, pay a cash deposit of 40,000 TL, bring a guarantor to sign a surety bond of 400,000 TL and report to the police one day a week.
