Man secretly recorded neighbor while undressing in her apartment in Lefkosa

A man who secretly recorded a neighbour undressing in her bedroom in Lefkoşa between August and September, will face legal proceeding following his arrest.

Police said the incident happened between August 20, 2024 and September 8, 2024 when the suspect identified s B.E secretly his 20-year-old female student who was undressing in her bedroom in an apartment located in Ortaköy.

The suspect, a resident of Lefkosa was arrested on Monday Sept. 9 following a complaint by the victim and was taken to the Lefkosa District court on Tuesday on charges of “acting against the Electronic Communications Law”, “privacy violation” and “sexual harassment”

Police in court testimony said the suspect, who is a resident of Lefkosa, recorded naked images of a 20-year-old woman, who lives in the same residence while undressing in her bedroom from the living room window of his residence.

Police stated that the young woman had written to the apartment residents whatsapp group on September 8, 2024, saying, "We will settle accounts with the police with the pervert who tried to film me by sticking his phone camera in my face".

The suspect then wrote the woman on Whatsapp saying "Just delete what you wrote to the apartment group because I love my wife very much, then I will permanently delete the record that I thought I had deleted, it does not concern me anyway, I promise. I do not want you to go to the police, but if you insist on going, unfortunately we will both be harmed by this situation."

Police said the suspect showed the video footage to the police of his own free will, and also gave a voluntary confession admitting his guilt. 

Police stated that the investigation was completed, that the suspect was in the country with a work permit, and requested that he be given an appropriate bail condition.

The judge released the susppect on bail on the condition that he is banned from leaving the country until his trial, pay a cash bail of 30,000 TL, bring two guarantors to sign a bail bond worth 500,000 TL each and report to the nearest police station once a week.
