Man enters neighbors apartment without permission, sexually assaults her

A man who allegedly entered a woman's house without permission and sexually assaulted the woman has been sent to prison for a period of 20 days until trial.

The incident happened at around 2:00am on Sunday Sept. 22 when the suspect named only as A.M, Turkish national and a resident of Lefkosa entered the apartment of his neighbour, a 23-year-old woman, by opening the door with a key that had been forgotten on the door.

He was arrested following a complaint and brought to a court in Lefkosa on Wednesday charged with illegal entry and sexual assault.

Police told the court that the suspect, who entered the woman's house without permission, entered the bedroom and sexually assaulted the 23-year-old woman who was lying in bed.

The woman was worried about the incident and filed a complaint on September 24, and the suspect was arrested the same day.

Police said the suspect gave a confessional statement. 

The police noted that the suspect has been in the north of Cyprus for 11 years with a work permit and requested that he be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days to await trial.
