Man detains and assault an individual for having an affair with his girlfriend

A foreign national has been detained by Turkish Cypriot police for reportedly kidnapping and assaulting an individual for allegedly having an affair with a 19-year-old girlfriend in Lefkoşa.

The suspect, M.T, a Turkmenistan national was arrested and brought to court on Sunday on charges of causing serious harm, serious assault and forced detention”.

Police in a court testimony said at around 12:50 am on Saturday September 14, 2024, the suspect who is a resident in Lefkosa severely beat one Muhammet, a Turkish national, who lives in Lefkoşa, because he was having a relationship with his friend, a 19-year-old girl named AN who lives in Taşkınköy, Lefkoşa.

Police said the suspect hit Muhammet twice on the nose and mouth with his right hand, causing his nose to be broken and causing serious harm. He then took him home and left him in front of his apartment building.

Police stated that the suspect approached Muhammet who was leaving home to go to the hospital, and prevented him from going to the hospital or the police.

Police said the suspect then forced Muhammet into his vehicle and took him to a house that has not yet been identified, against his will and detained him by force.

Muhammet later found an opportunity to leave the house and went to the hospital. The situation was reported to the police and an investigation was launched.

Police said that there were statements to be taken, that the suspect had made some statements, and that there were camera footages to be examined, and requested that he be detained for 2 days.
