Man causes accident in Lefkosa: 3 injured, over 1 million TL in damage

A foreign national who was involved in an accident in Lefkosia that left 3 people injured was arrested on Thursday.

The accident happened at around 1:20am on Thursday Sept. 5 on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Street in Lefkosa when the driver identified as M.A, a Palestinian national lost control of his vehicle and hit another vehicle.

He was arrested and brought to court on Thursday charged with Careless Driving, Dangerous Driving, Driving Carelessly Without Making Efforts to Avoid Causing Navigation Difficulty”.

Police in a court statement said the suspect was driving dangerously towards the east in the second lane from the left and while he was carelessly trying to pass the vehicle in front of him on the left of the road, he hit the right front side of the vehicle driven by one M.B which was going in the same direction. He then hit the rear left side of another vehicle driven by S.F, which was moving on the right lane in front of him.

The vehicle driven by S.F, which was thrown uncontrollably by the impact, crashed into the median dividing the road into two and the eucalyptus tree in the median, then overturned on its left side and came to a stop on its roof.

Police said S.F along with two other passengers in the same vehicle, were injured in the accident and taken to the Lefkoşa State Hospital emergency room where they received first aid treatment and kept under observation.

Police stated that an estimated total damage of one million TL occurred as a result of the accident.

The suspect who left the scene of the accident but was detected and arrested 2 hours later.

Police said the treatment of the injured was continuing but that their lives were not in danger, that the investigation was completed, that the suspect was a university student, and requested that he be given a bail condition.

Speaking after the police, the suspect's lawyer, stated that his client's family lives in Gaza and that he would not be able to find a guarantor, and requested that he be given a suitable guarantee.

The judge who evaluated the testimony released the suspect on bail on the condition that he is banned from travelling abroad until his trial, pay a cash bail of 50,000 TL and appear at the nearest police station as evidence two days a week.
