Man arrested for drug in Çatalköy : Drugs found in every corner of his house

Turkish Cypriot police said it arrested an individual in Çatalköy after drugs were found in his apartment.

The suspect named as H.C, a Turkish national who resides in Çatalköy was arrested on Friday Sept. 20 after a team from the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate found drugs at his residence.

He was brought to court on Saturday on charges of "Illegal Possession of Narcotic Substance (cannabis)".

Police said the suspect was arrested in accordance with a court order and during his arrest, he tried to escape through the back door of his residence after sighting the police team who visited his residence on Friday September 20, 2024.

During a search conducted at the residence of the suspect between 1:00 pm and 1:40 pm in accordance with the court order, approximately two grams of a substance believed to be cannabis-type drug was found wrapped in two blue and white nylon bags in the cabinet under the sink in the living room of the residence and taken as evidence.

A cigarette with a burnt end, believed to be a cannabis-type drug mixed with tobacco, was found on the toilet floor, and that approximately 13 grams of a substance believed to be a cannabis-type drug, wrapped in 13 separate blue-white nylon bags, ready for sale, was found in a yellow nylon bag with the word pharmacy written on it, inside a drainpipe and was taken as evidence.

Police stated that the investigation into the matter had just begun, that the signs received would be sent for analysis, and that the statements made by the suspect needed to be confirmed and refuted, and requested that he be detained by the police for 3 days initially for investigation purposes.
