Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes off Cyprus coast

A 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck Cyprus, off Paphos in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to the EuroMediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred at 2.18 on Sunday morning with an epicenter 47km southwest of Limassol and 25km southeast of Paphos. 

The depth of the earthquake was 10km.

Residents in various areas of Limassol reported feeling the quake.

The tremor with a weak shaking was felt in several regions, including Limassol, Nicosia, Chlorakas, Polemi and Paphos.

Though noticeable, the intensity and duration of the quake were less severe than a previous earthquake recorded about a month ago, which approached a magnitude of 5 and caused widespread concern, particularly in the Paphos area.
