Lightening strikes causes two fires in north Cyprus village
A fire broke out due to a lightning strike in the area between Derince and Avtepe villages, specifically at the location of the former British Military Camp and the Yeşilköy Water Reservoirs.
The incident occurred at around 1:00pm on Sarturday. Both fires were extinguished by firefighting teams, and an
investigation is ongoing.
According to a statement from the Police Press Office, at around midday on Saturday, a fire occurred in the former British Camp area due to a lightning strike, affecting approximately half an acre of forested land, including seven small pine trees and five large pine trees, along with vegetation.
At around 1pm, another fire broke out at the Yeşilköy Water Reservoirs location, also caused by lightning, damaging two large pine trees and dry grass within a 50 square metre forested area.
The police reported that both fires were extinguished by firefighting teams.
