Greek Cypriot woman robs 89-year-old man in Larnaca, runs him down with her car

Police in south Cyprus said they arrested a 25-year old woman for robbing and injuring an 89-year-old man on Thursday.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon in Oroklini, Larnaca.

Police said they received a complaint about the incident at around 2.20pm and went to the scene to find the man injured outside his residence. The 89-year-old was taken by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with an injury to his left hip, for which he was hospitalised.

According to the victim, the 25-year-old woman, a stranger to him, stole his wallet from his residence. The man chased her car and tried to stop her but the suspect allegedly ran into him and left the scene.

Police were able to secure the details of the woman’s vehicle which they later located, parked outside her home.

Police found the suspect and questioned her, whereupon she handed over part of the stolen money. In a subsequent search of her car, officers found the elderly man’s wallet.

Police arrested the 25-year-old and the case is under ongoing investigation.
