Four students arrested for living in north Cyprus without resident permit

Several students who were found to be living in north Cyprus without a resident permit were brought to court on Monday and remanded for 3 days.

The individuals, M.S.J.A, a Ghanaian national, S.C.I, a Nigerian national, A.C, a Guinean national, and A.N.G, a Liberian were identified and arrested between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm on Saturday, September, 28 by a team of police who were patrolling Bedrettin Demirel Street in Lefkosa.

They were brought to the Lefkosia district court on Monday for living in the country without a resident permit.

Police in a court testimony against the suspects said, an immigration check carried out on M.S.J.A who was arrested while walking on the side of the road showed that he had been without a residence permit for 512 days, since May 6, 2023.

It was determined that S.C.I who was detected and arrested with force in front of the Atılgan Plaza Student Dormitory operating in Küçük Kaymaklı at around 1:00 pm on the same date, had not had a residence permit for 1,623 days since April 19, 2020.

The suspect A.C and A.N.G who were detected at around 4:00 pm on the same day were determined to have resided in the TRNC without a residence permit for a total of 1,034 days since November 29, 2021.

The police officer stated that an investigation had been launched and that statements would be taken from the Immigration Department regarding the suspects, and requested they they be detained for another 3 days.
