Five people arrested for theft after breaking into apartment in Lefkosa

A man who broke into an apartment in Lefkosa will be detained for 3 days in the first instance as police carry out investigation on the matter.

The suspect, E.K, a Turkish Cypriot along with three others D.A, E..K, Ö.Z and E.K reportedly broke into an apartment located in Lefkoşa between March 1 and August 23.

The suspect was brought to the Lefkosa court on Friday.

Police in a court testimony said the suspects, E.K, D.A, E..K, Ö.Z and E.K entered the house of a person named S.Ş. in Lefkoşa by opening the wooden shutters between March 1 and August 23 and stole many items.

The suspects, Ö.Z and E.K, were initially identified, arrested and brought to court, where they were given an additional 3-day detention order.

Some of the stolen items were found during a search conducted at Ö.Z's residence.

Police said D.A and E.K, whose connection to the crime was determined as a result of the investigation carried out were identified and arrested on August 25. A search was conducted at both suspects' homes, but nothing illegal was found.

Police said that D.A and E.K were also brought to court on August 26 and a two-day detention order was issued against them.

Police stated that they reviewed many camera footages during the suspects' detention period and that it was determined that the house in question was entered many times.

The four suspects were brought to court again on August 29, and that all of them were given an additional 8 days detention period.

After 8 days of detention, the 4 suspects were released on bail and an arrest warrant was issued for the wanted suspect, E.K who was identified and arrested in Lefkosa the previous day.

Police said investigation was ongoing and that there were signs to be sought, and requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.
