Congolese students arrested for sleeping on the streets of north Cyprus to be deported
A Congolese student who was arrested after she was found sleeping on the streets of Lefkosia and held in police custody because she could not explain herself will be deported back to her country.
The student, named only as O.B.M, 25, who is in the TRNC for study was found stranded and lying on the pavement in front of the Başpınar Apartment in İğneci Street, in Hamitköy Lefkosa at around 9:00pm on Saturday September 7.
Police said she was found in a state of disarray, disorderly and could not explain herself.
She was taken to court where she was ordered to remain in police custody for 3 days.
Police told the court that she was arrested as a Rogue Person because she acted suspiciously and could not give a clear answer regarding her source of income and residence address during questioning.
She told the police in a statement that she had no money or source of income and wanted to return to her country, and that she currently had no place to stay and was sleeping on the streets.
She was brought back to court again on Wednesday Sept. 11 where the court decided that she be deported back to her country as she was living a "messy" life.
