British university to open Department of Magic and Occult in September

In the first of its kind, the University of Exeter in the united Kingdom is set to launch a masters degree in magic and occult in September.

The programme, which covers a wide range of subjects from Western literature to medieval depictions of women, will be the first UK department to offer a degree in the subject.

The University of Exeter was founded in 1922 in the United Kingdom. The University in 2023 announced that it will launch a master's program under the name of magic in 2024. It was also noted that it will be the first university to grant a diploma in magic.

Courses to be offered in the program include Dragons in Western Literature and Art, The Portrayal of Women in the Middle Ages, and Philosophy of Hallucinogens.

It will provide an opportunity to study the history of witchcraft and magic around the world and its impact on society and science. The one-year program begins in September 2024.

Expert scholars in the fields of history, literature, philosophy, archaeology, sociology, psychology, drama and religion will demonstrate the role of magic in the West and the East.

The university said the programme would be the first in the UK to combine the study of the history of magic with such a wide range of other subjects.

"The recent increase in interest in magic and occultism, both within and outside academia, is at the heart of some of the most pressing questions in our society. The course will be taught at the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies. This section will make people reconsider their assumption that the West is the place of rationalism and science, while the rest of the world is the place of magic and superstition," said Prof. Selove.
