Woman assaults police officers in Lefkosa to avoid arrest
A Turkish woman was detained following the order of a Lefkosia district court on Thursday for assaulting two police officers who tried to arrest her.
The suspect named only as R.F, at around 9:30am on August 28, physically assaulted two police officers who tried to arrest her for leaving a market in Lefkcosia without paying for what she bought.
She was arraigned in court on Thursday on charges of “circumcision”, “serious assault”, “causing a disturbance and behaving inappropriately”.
Police told the court that the suspect stole 1,993 TL worth of various brands of products from the Macro market operating in Küçükkaymaklı when she took them out of the market without paying the cashier.
Police the suspect came to the Lefkosa police branch on the same day and reported that she had lost her mobile phone in a market called Macro. After examining the security cameras of the market in question, it was determined that the suspect had committed the crime of fraud.
At around 8:05pm on the same day, the suspect was detected by the police team on duty on Şehit Mustafa Ruso Street, a public place, and while she was about to be summoned to the police station, she acted inappropriately by shouting loudly and in a manner that would disturb public peace.
She waved her hands up and down in a manner that would cause unrest, by randomly hitting various parts of the faces of the police officers on duty with both hands thus seriously assaulting the police officers on duty and deliberately preventing them from performing their duties.
The police requested that she be detained for 2 days, stating that the investigation had just begun, the suspect's residence needed to be determined, the suspect's legal status in the country would be investigated and there was camera footage to be examined.
The suspect, who spoke after the police, said that she had a plane to catch and that she also had health problems.
