Two injured in drunk driving accident on Famagusta-Iskele main road, driver arrested

Two people were injured following an accident that occurred on the Famagusta-Iskele main road when a drunk driver lost control of his vehicle.

The accident involving a drunk driver happened at around 2:45pm on Saturday on the Famagusta-Iskele main road. Two people were injured in the accident.

According to police statement on the matter, the driver of the vehicle, CJU, 27, a Nigerian was under the influence of alcohol while driving southward of the road and loss control of the vehicle at the Salamis roundabout.

The driver went over the roundabout, causing the vehicle to continue in an uncontrolled manner and then re-entered the road. It then hit the pavement stones on the left side of the road, followed by an illuminated billboard before skidding uncontrollably and then fell into the rainwater drainage ditch.

Two individuals, ZOA, 27 and POE, 28 who were passengers in the vehicle were injured as a result of the accident and were taken to Yeniboğaziçi - Near East Hospital where they were kept under observation after their treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested with investigation ongoing.
