Two foreigners arrested for trying to exit Cyprus with forged passports
Greek Cypriot authorities said they arrested two foreign nationals in separate incidents for attempting to live Cyprus (south) using forged passports.
According to the report on Monday, the pair had attempted to leave Cyprus via the Limassol port with forged passports.
In the first case, a 36-year-old man was detained during a routine check as he prepared to board the ‘MV DALEELA’ bound for Piraeus, Greece.
The suspect, who presented a fake Spanish passport, later admitted to being Iranian.
During questioning, the man revealed he had purchased the counterfeit document in Turkey for €15,000.
In a separate incident on the same day, port police apprehended a 20-year-old man after he presented a suspicious Romanian passport.
The individual, who confessed to being Syrian, told authorities he had acquired the forged document within Cyprus for €1,500.
Both men have been arrested on charges of impersonation following the issuance of judicial warrants for forgery and circulation of false documents.
