Two arrested for throwing stones at military barracks in Güzelyurt
Two men were arrested in Güzelyurt, north Cyprus on Sunday for throwing stones at an army barracks.
The pair identified only as S.I and A.K, who are both Pakistani nationals were arrested at around 1.30am On Sunday August 11 for throwing stones at the 49th Infantry Regiment Çiftlik Barracks in Güzelyurt.
They were taken to court later in the day charged with causing “general disturbance” and having engaged in “inappropriate behaviour”.
The Turkish Cypriot police said they had received complaints from other barracks at other times about similar incidents, and that they would investigate whether there was any possible link between those incidents and the two men arrested on Sunday.
Police who spoke in court on the matter said that statements would be taken and that CCTV footage from the area would be examined.
He also said that the pair’s residence status in north Cyprus would be examined and requested that they be remanded in custody.
The judge ordered that the pair remain in custody for three days.
