Two arrested for stealing a bag forgotten at Ercan Airport: $7,050 unaccounted for

Two men who stole a bag dropped by an individual at Ercan airport were arrested and held in police custody. 

The suspects identified only as R.L and R.M.L were arrested at Demirhan and brought to the Lefkosa district court on Thursday charged with theft.

Police told the court in a statement that the incident happened at around 5:30pm on Tuesday August 6 when the owner of the bag forgot the bag containing 7,050 US Dollars, approximately 10,000 TL, a headset and a professional ID card at the Ercan Airport departure parking area. The bag was found and stolen by the suspects.

The incident was reported to the police on the same day, and the suspects were identified the same day and an arrest warrant was issued for them. 

The stolen headset was detected through signal inside a rented vehicle used by the suspects. During a search carried out in the vehicle, approximately 10,000 TL, a headset and a handbag were found in the covered area between the passenger and driver seats.

Police stated that the investigation was ongoing and that the $7,050 had not yet been determined, and requested that the suspects be detained for 2 days.
