Student found with drugs in search on vehicle
A foreign national who was found with drugs in Lefkosa, north Cyprus will spend some time in police detention following a court order.
The suspect, identified only as N.S, 25 was arrested on Bedrettin Demirel Street in Lefkosa at around 3:30am on Tuesday August 13 after drugs were found in his possession during police search.
He was taken to the Lefkosa district court later in the day on charges of “illegal drug purchase, distribution and possession”.
Police said the suspect was stopped while driving on Bedrettin Demirel Street in Lefkosia and his vehicle was searched. During the search conducted by the Crime Prevention Department teams, a total of 40 grams of cannabis type drugs were seized in 28 separate packages ready for sale under the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Police stated that the suspect gave a voluntary statement containing a confession.
Noting that the seized substance would be sent for analysis and the wrapped packages for fingerprint examination, the police also said that he was a wanted person and requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days for investigation purposes.
