Student caught with cannabis in police drug raid

A student has been ordered to remain in police detention for one day after he was found with drugs during a police search at his residence in Kyrenia.

The suspect named only as D.O, a Nigerian, was detected between the hours of 10:40m and 11:25am on Wednesday August 14, 2024, during a search conducted at his residence in Alsancak, Kyrenia.

He was brought to the Kyrenia court on Thursday on charges of "illegal drug purchase, distribution and possession".

Police said that the suspect, who was wanted for the crimes of receiving, giving and possessing drugs that occurred on August 2, 2024, was found with approximately 0.2 grams of cannabis type drugs found inside a transparent nylon bag on the table in the living room of the house during a search carried out at his residence.

The substance was taken as evidence.

Police noted that the seized substance was sent to the State Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Medicine and Pharmacy for analysis as of August 15. 

Police stated that the investigation had just begun, that there were statements to be taken and the results of the analysis awaited, and requested that the suspect be detained for one day.
