Spanish tourist dies after undergoing plastic surgery in Istanbul

A 42-year-old Spanish woman who went to Istanbul to undergo plastic surgery, died few hours after the surgery.

Perla Virginia Baez Garay, 42 a resident of Madrid, Spain traveled to Istanbul, Turkey this week to undergo plastic surgery when she fell ill and died few hours after the surgery in a private hospital located in Şişli.

The mother of two allegedly made an agreement with a plastic surgeon on Monday, August 5 and underwent various plastic surgeries at a private hospital in Şişli.

Garay fell ill a few hours after the surgery in the private hospital where she was kept for observation. She experienced respiratory distress and was taken to the intensive care unit but died despite all interventions.

An investigation was launched into the death of the Spanish woman by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. 

Perla Virginia Baez Garay's body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute following an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. 

Her body was handed over to her family and consulate officials to be sent to Spain.
