Southern Cyprus recently attempted to block property, tourism and universities in north Cyprus: Ersin Tatar

TRNC president Ersin Tatar has revealed that southern Cyprus government has recently attempted to block property sales, tourism and universities in north Cyprus.

Tatar who made the revelation during a media chat with NTV this week said, “They are supposedly going to intimidate us, make us kneel and sit at the table in a begging position. Begging is not in our book.”

“If a negotiation table is to be established, it is extremely important that our sovereignty is accepted,” and underlined that sovereignty is not even a matter of bargaining.

Tatar reminded that the embargoes on direct flights, direct trade and sports for Northern Cyprus continue and “If you remove these, then a process may begin. The Greek side has been launching attacks on property, tourism, and our universities in recent days.”

Tatar listed the critical conditions for returning to negotiations as “direct flights, direct trade and the lifting of absurd embargoes such as not allowing anyone to meet with us, not allowing our athletes to meet with anyone even in sports,” and stated that sovereignty was also among the critical conditions.

President Tatar said, recently the Greek side has started attacks on property, tourism and universities. They are supposedly going to intimidate us.”
