Prisoner attacks fellow prisoner with boiling sugar water in north Cyprus prison

A prisoner in north Cyprus sustained first-degree burns on his face and body after having boiling water with sugar in it poured on his face and body.

The prisoner was hospitalised with burns on his face, under his right armpit, and on his armpit, with the sugar water reportedly having been poured on him after an argument with another prisoner.

According to reports, the victim was watching television in his cell when another prisoner became angry because he had changed the channel.

Following an argument, the other prisoner then boiled water and mixed it with sugar, before throwing it at his cellmate.

Boiling water mixed with sugar is more dangerous than unmixed water as it raises water’s boiling point and also sticks to the skin upon impact, meaning the sugar residue has to be manually removed.

The solution is known as “prison napalm”, given the fact it is regularly used in prisons.
