Novak Djokovic wins first Olympic Gold medal after beating Alcaraz

In an intense and thrilling men’s singles final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Novak Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz 7(7)-6(3), 7(7)-6(2) to claim his first-ever Olympic gold medal.

The 37-year-old Serbian tennis legend, who had previously won all four Grand Slam titles, was overcome with emotion as he finally achieved his dream of winning the gold.

Djokovic’s journey to the top of the podium was not easy, as he faced a tough challenge from 21-year-old Alcaraz, who pushed him to two tiebreakers.

The match lasted nearly three hours, with both players showing signs of frustration due to the rowdy crowd.

After the match, Djokovic collapsed on the floor, shaking and crying, before embracing his family in the crowd.

He becomes the oldest player to win the Olympics singles tournament since 1908 and joins an elite group of players to complete the “Golden Slam,” including Steffi Graff, Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, and Serena Williams.

Djokovic’s victory solidifies his place among tennis legends, and he reflected on his journey, saying, “I’m overwhelmed with everything I’m feeling right now… Millions of different emotions.”

Alcaraz, despite his disappointment, showed promise for the future, saying, “I’m proud of the way I played today… I gave everything that I had.”
