Mass brawl between two families in Lefkosia ends with brick flying through police car’s window

A mass brawl between two families involving 11 people on Wednesday night ended with a brick flying through the window of a police car, the Turkish Cypriot police said on Thursday.

The fight took place in Celaliye Street in the Surlariçi area in Lefkosia at around 8:00am on Wednesday July 31 as a result of an argument which had taken place between the children of the involved families.

Police were called to the scene and found two “teams” of people, one consisting of five men and a woman, aged between 15 and 45 years old, and the other consisting of five men aged between 26 and 61 years old.

The 11 involved were, according to the police, “fighting by randomly hitting various parts of each other’s bodies and causing a disturbance … by shouting and screaming loudly.”

When the police arrived, a 19-year-old male reportedly picked up a brick he found on the ground and threw it at the window of a police car and damaged the car window. No injuries were reported.

He was then arrested alongside the other 10 people. The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
