Man with drugs in his possession assaults woman who tried to render help

In a turn of event in Lefkosia on Friday, a man who fell off his motorcycle seriously attacked a passerby who was trying to help him up. 

The incident occurred on Reşadiye Street in Lefkosia at around 8.20 pm on Friday. 

It was reported that a woman named only as YK, 37 was hit in the face and other parts of her body by RY, 28 while attempting to help him up off the ground.

He then fled the scene of the incident.

Police visited the scene of the incident upon a complaint.

According to police statement, RY fell off his motorcycle, a piece of paper he had in his possession fell to the ground. Subsequently, when the piece of paper in question was checked by the Police teams, approximately 2 grams of a substance believed to be a synthetic cannabinoid type drug was detected and taken as evidence.

The suspect was identified with the help of camera examinations and was arrested in accordance with the court order.

He was brought to court on Saturday on charges of “Unlawful Possession of Drugs and Serious Assault”.

Police said the substance found, thought to be a drug, would be sent for analysis, and requested that the suspect be detained in police custody for 3 days for investigation purposes.
