Man seeking for peace threatens ex-wife with a gun in front of a government building
A Turkish man has been held in police custody for two days for threatening his ex-wife with a gun in front of a government building in Lefkosia, north Cyprus.
The suspect, EE was arrested on Tuesday July 30 following a complaint.
Police said the suspect threatened his ex-wife with a gun and staged a coup in the courtyard of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation in an incident that happened in Lefkosia on July 16.
He was brought to the Lefkosia district court on Wednesday and charge with “carrying illegal explosives”, “threat of violence”, “assault” and “carrying a weapon to create terror”.
Police said between hours of 3:00am and 5:00am on July 16, 2024, the suspect pointed a gun at a young woman with whom he wanted to make peace in the courtyard of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, where his ex-wife worked.
A complaint was made on July 30 and the suspect was arrested the same day.
Police said the victim, CA said in his statement that she was afraid and that she did not want to come to the police alone so she waited for her lawyer who was abroad and that she came to give her statement when her lawyer arrived.
Police stated that the investigation confirmed that CA's lawyer was abroad and that the investigation was ongoing, there were statements to be taken and camera footage to be examined, and requested that the suspect be detained for 2 days.
