Man dies after swallowing an unidentified substance while police were searching his home in Güzelyurt

In an incident that took place in Güzelyurt, north Cyprus, a 41-year-old man who was receiving treatment in intensive care, died on Friday after swallowing an unidentified substance while the police were searching his house.

Police team from the Güzelyurt Police Department carried out a search on the residence of 41-year-old Nezif Özhançer on Thursday August 1 where they found approximately half a gram of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and materials used in the production of drugs which were taken as evidence.

According to a police statement on the matter, Nezif Özhançer swallowed an unidentified substance that he had in his possession during the aforementioned search. He fell ill as a result and was taken to the Neurology Intensive Care Unit of the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkoşa.

He could not be saved despite all interventions and died from the illness.

The cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
