"I memorized your face, when I get out of here I will find you and k!ll you": Man who assaulted two police officers yells

A man who threatened a business owner, beat two police officers, broke the window in the cell control room and threatened a police officer was remanded in police custody on Thursday.

Police said the suspect, named only as TC, a Turkish national threatened a business owner, then beat two police officers who took him to the cell, broke the window in the cell control room and threatened a police officer.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday July 31 and taken to the Lefkosia district court on Thursday August 1 on charges of “Threat of violence”, “Deliberate damage”, “Battery on a police officer, stopping an officer from its duty”, “Drunkness”, “Disturbance”, “Inappropriate behavior” and “Indecent language”.

Police told the court that at around 5:30pm on Wednesday July 31, the suspect went to a business operating on Şht. Mustafa Salih Street in Lefkoşa in a drunken state and caused a disturbance by shouting and yelling on the grounds that the owner of the business, TB, had complained about his wife to the police.

He was brought to the Lefkoşa police by officers on duty upon a complaint made. When police officers on duty requested an alcohol test, he refused to give a breath sample and started shouting loudly causing public disturbance.

He then swore to TB saying :"I'm going to f*ck his mother", and started to behave inappropriately by waving his hands and arms randomly.

Police told the court that after the suspect was arrested, he punched the police officers K.Ç. and EY on duty at the Lefkoşa police station and beat them, thus restricting them from their duties.

He also threatened police officer H.Ç. with violence while he was in the control room in the cells, saying “I have memorized your face, I will find you and kill you when I leave here tomorrow”. Police said he deliberately and unlawfully punched and broke the window of the control room, causing deliberate damage.

Police stated that the suspect was arrested with force after punching and breaking the window. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of the wound he sustained and was discharged.

Police stated that the investigation against the suspect was ongoing and that the statements he made would be confirmed and refuted, and requested that he be held in police detention for 1 day for investigation purpose.
