I Love You: Bangladeshi national wrote in a note to underage Turkish Cypriot kids
A man who was held for harassing teenage girls in Lefkosia was found to be living in north Cyprus without a resident permit.
The suspect, MD. SM, an Bangladeshi national was arrested at on Saturday August 3 for harassing two 13-year-old girls playing in Ortaköy.
He was brought to the Lefkosa district court on Sunday on charges of Public Disturbance and Residing in the TRNC without Permit and detained for 2 days for investigation purposes.
Police said at around 8:30pm on Saturday August 3, 2024, a complaint was made to the Gönyeli police station by phone that a Bangladeshi national was disturbing two 13-year-old girls playing on Ali Hasip Street in Ortaköy, a public place.
A police team on duty at the police station visited the scene.
Police said the suspect had been trying to talk to two 13-year-old girls who were residing on the same street and playing on the street for about a week, and had given the children a piece of paper by writing "I Love You, his mobile phone number and Sajib" and making a heart sign with his hands.
The suspect was detained on the street by the locals and handed over to the police.
Police said that as part of the investigation into the matter, the suspect was arrested and it was determined that he had been residing in the TRNC without a residence permit for a total of 208 days since January 8, 2024.
Police said that the examination of security cameras at the scene of the incident is ongoing and that the suspect should be detained at the police station for 2 days for investigation purposes, as there are statements that need to be taken.
