Eight foreigners who entered north Cyprus illegally to apply for amnesty arrested in Lefkosia

Eight people who tried to cross from south Cyprus to north Cyprus to apply for amnesty were arrested and detained for violating a military zone.

The eight suspects identified as W.A, S.A, B.N, F.B, H.M, A.A, A.B, who are Pakistani natioanls and M.M.H, a Bangladeshi national were found by a team of the Lefkosa Police department on the Gaziköy-Ercan Airport road at around 10:30pm on Tuesday. They were arrested and taken to a Lefkosa district court on Wednesday.

Police said the suspects were arrested after it was determined that they had secretly entered a first-degree military prohibited zone and crossed to the north of Cyprus illegally.

Police said the suspects had travelled from the south to the north of Cyprus in a vehicle on the same day, and that their reason for coming to the north was to “benefit from the immigration amnesty”.

Police said that a substance believed to be narcotics was found in the black waist bag of suspect AA, and that the substance in question was taken as evidence to be analyzed at the State Chemistry Laboratory.

Police stated that the investigation was ongoing, statements of the suspects would be investigated, and the results of the analysis of the found substance would be awaited, and asked that they be held in detention for a period of 2 days.
