Car belonging to Turkish Cypriot journalist stolen and damaged in Güzelyurt

A car belonging to a Turkish Cypriot journalist was stolen from her home in Güzelyurt and damaged.

The car belong to Rana Sarro, a Turkish Cypriot journalist was stolen from her residence in Güzelyurt at around 5:30am on Thursday.

The suspect who stole the car which was parked in front of the journalist's house was caught and arrested on the METU Campus. 

Announcing the incident on social media, journalist Rana Sarro said her car was stolen from her house and taken to campus where it was damaged.

Sarro stated that her car was stolen in broad daylight while she was sleeping at home at the time of the incident and that the car was saved from being towed away at the last minute thanks to the intervention of security guards.

Police determined the suspect had a prior drug conviction and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Rana Sarro's social media post reads:

“It’s 05.30... My car is stolen from in front of my house, it’s destroyed on campus, if the security guards didn’t recognize me, a tow truck would be called to take me away and lies are told about my “car friend.”

While I was sleeping at home in the morning...

We are currently at the police station, it was determined that the student had a drug conviction and was under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested for vehicle theft.”
