A man was arrested by Turkish Cypriot police on Wednesday for stealing two bicycles in Lefkosia.
The suspect, MY, a foreign national who was arrested in Lefkosia on Wednesday was brought before a court in Lefkosia charged with theft.
Police said at around 1:40pm on July 30, 2024, the suspect stole a Salcano brand bicycle worth 4,500 TL from a shoe store operating on Captain Tekin Yurdabak Street, belonging to store employee MU.
At around 4:30pm on the same day, the suspect abandoned the previously stolen bicycle and stole a New Speed brand Salcano bicycle worth 9,000 TL up for sale in front of a workplace on 2. Selim Street.
The suspect was detected and arrested in Lefkoşa.
It was determined that he had no residence permit and had been living in north Cyprus for 244 days since September 30, 2023.
Police stated that the part of the investigation that the suspect could influence was completed and requested that he be held in detention until trial.
The judge ordered that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 45 days.
