Unaccompanied minors relocated from Cyprus to Germany
A total of 25 unaccompanied minors departed from Cyprus for Germany on Thursday accompanied by representatives of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), as part of the pilot programme for the voluntary relocation of unaccompanied minors.
According to a statement released by deputy ministry of social welfare, the relocation programme is a brainchild of the social welfare services, the asylum service and the deputy ministry of migration.
The IOM is also assisting as far as logistics are concerned, after the German authorities, agreed on the voluntary relocation of the minors.
The statement stressed that the programme “is a crucial tool for managing the significant influx of unaccompanied minors in the Republic of Cyprus”.
“It aims to ensure the best interests and rights of the minors and their eventual integration. Efforts to include more unaccompanied minors in the programme, in cooperation with other European Union countries, will continue,” the statement concluded.
