Two sent to prison for living in north Cyprus illegaly
Two young students who were arrested after being found to be living in the country without a residence permit, were sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
The infividuals, BO and HM were identified and arrested at around 7:00pm on July 17 after it was determined that the were living in the country without a residence permit.
They were brought to court on Friday.
Police said they were detected by Crime Prevention Branch teams patrolling on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Street and when their IDs were checked, it was determined that they have been residing in north Cyprus without a resident permit for 656 days since September 30, 2022.Police said the necessary investigation was carried out by the Immigration Department regarding the arrested suspects.
The suspects, who were given the opportunity to speak after the police, said that they wanted to pay their fines and gain legal status.
The judge ordered that the suspects be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days until their cases are heard.
