Two held in detention for drugs

Two individuals who were arrested in connection with 1 kilo of drugs seized by the narcotics police in north Cyprus were sent to prison.

One of the suspect, NOA, 26 a Nigerian national who imported the substance in question from South Cyprus, was brought to the Famagusta District Court on Friday.

The second suspect, JB, 42, a Pakistani national who was arrested on suspicion of having links to narcotics, reported that he was handed over to Demirhan Police Station for the crime of violating the military prohibited zone.

Police told the court that the suspect and his friend JB were arrested on the roadside in Ulukışla due to suspicious movements, and during the body search, they detected approximately 1 kilogram of cannabis-type drugs inside 4 blue bags in a backpack imported from Southern Cyprus. The drugs were seized evidence.

Police stated that the analysis results had not yet come from the State Chemistry Laboratory and the Fingerprint Branch, where the seized evidence were sent for examination.

Police requested time from the court to complete the investigation safely.

The judge ordered the suspects to be detained for seven days each so that the investigation can be concluded safely.
