Two arrested for carrying gun and bullets to a night club in north Cyprus

Two guns and 25 bullets were found in a bag thrown on the side of the road by two men when they saw the police in Alayköy. 

The suspects, RK and İÜ, both Turkish Cypriots were arrested at around 1:00am on Monday July 15 in Alayköy and were brought to court the Lefkosia district court on Monday.

Police said they were arrested during an operation carried out jointly by the Gönyeli Police Station and Crime Prevention Branch after the police detected a suspicious bag on the side of the road in Alayköy on Sunday July 14, 2024. Two guns and 25 bullets were seized from them.

Police in a court statement said that the suspects who went to the nightclub parking lot threw the bag out of the vehicle when they saw the police teams. The police stated that two 99 mm caliber pistols and 25 7.65 mm bullets were found in the bag by the Crime Prevention Department teams and were taken as evidence.

The suspects were questioned, RK admitted to taking the bag from the side of the road, and İÜ admitted to throwing the bag out of the car when he saw the police in the nightclub parking lot. 

Police noted that the investigation had just begun, that there were statements to be taken and camera footage to be examined, searches would be conducted at both suspects' residences and workplaces. 

The police also stated that the weapons and bullets would be sent for ballistic examination and requested that they be held in detention for a period of 3 days.
