Turkish Cypriot defrauds Turkmenistan of 313,000 TL with the promise of a job in north Cyprus
Man who allegedly defrauded and obtained 313,000 TL from an individual with the promise of obtaining a work permit for him in north Cyprus has been detained for 3 days.
The incident took place in Gönyeli, in June 2024 when the suspect, FD, a Turkish Cypriot defrauded an individual in Turkmenistan of 313,000 TL with the promise of getting a preliminary permits to workers coming from Turkmenistan.
The suspect was arrested and brought to court on Friday on charges of obtaining money through fraud.
Police in a court statement said the suspect met with one Ilaman Gylyjov online and in person in Gönyeli in June 2024, and promised to provide a preliminary permit and find a job for one Atajan Movlyanov, who resides in Turkmenistan and wants to come to the TRNC to work, and obtained a total of 313,000 TL from Ilaman Gylyjov via internet banking with the intention of fraud and defrauding him.
Police said the suspect said he would return the money because there was no preliminary trace, but he only returned 2,000 TL to Ilaman Gylyjov.
Police noted that upon initial examination of the suspect's mobile phone, which was taken as evidence after he was arrested upon complaint, passport photos and preliminary permit documents of many foreign individuals were detected.
Noting that the investigation had just begun and that an investigation should be conducted into the identified individuals, the police requested that the suspect be detained for a period of 3 days.
