Thief who stole traffic light in Kyrenia arrested along with three others
The thief who stole a traffic light on the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Street in Kyrenia on Monday this week has been arrested along with two other suspects.
The suspects are 19-year-old MEG, 18-year-old İ.A. and 17-year-old ARB.
The suspects were arrested following an investigation launched into the theft of a traffic light that was deliberately removed and damaged from where it was installed on the central reservation on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Street in Kyrenia at around 5:00am on Monday July 29.
Recall that a footage went viral on Tuesday showing the moment a resident was seen inspecting the traffic lights, before making an unsuccessful attempt to pull them off the post to which they were attached.
He then returned to make another attempt, this time successfully dislodging the traffic lights and making off with them.
The stolen item was returned to the police on Tuesday.
The suspects said in their statements that they were drunk, that they did something like this on the spur of the moment, and that they committed this crime thinking that ARB would put the light in his room.
The police stated that the investigation was ongoing and that a damage assessment would be made.
Police requested bail, stating that the suspects would not be able to influence the rest of the investigation.
The judge released them on bail on the condition that they are banned from travelling abroad, all their identity and travel documents be confiscated, pay a cash deposit of 10,000 TL each, bring a guarantor to sign a 100,000 TL surety bond for each of them, and report to the nearest police station once a week.
