Teenager drowns after jumping into the sea

A young Turkish Cypriot man lost his life after he jumped off a friend’s boat on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at around 11.30 am on Tuesday July 2 when the deceased, 19-year-old Ahmet Deniz Tabakoğlu, a resident of Karşıyaka, jumped into the sea from the boat lying 500 metres offshore Çatalköy.

His friend found his body floating motionless in the water and was taken to Dr. Akçiçek Hospital in Kyrenia, however, medical staff were unable to revive him.

The post mortem determined that he had died by drowning.

A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
