Student expresses regret in court after he was arrested for stealing from a super market in north Cyprus

A student who took several items fro a market operating in  Demirhan, Lefkosa has been detained by the police following his arrest.

The suspect identified only as JE., 21 reportedly committed the crime at around 9:30pm pm on Saturday June 29 during a visit to a Erülkü supermarket operating in Demirhan, Lefkosia.

Police said he stole ice cream, chocolate and perfume. He was brought to a court in Lefkosia on Monday July 1.

Police told the court that the suspect, who went to the market for shopping, took a Ad Nike brand perfume, seven chocolates, an Algida Milka ice cream and a pack of Şah brand spice for sale in the market with a total value of 588.60 TL, put them in his pockets and took them out of the market without making payment. 

The suspect was arrested red-handed and that the items in question were taken as evidence.

The suspect, who was given the opportunity to speak after the police, said that he was "regretful" and wanted to pay for the products he stole and be free.

The judge ordered that the suspect be detained for 3 days.

He was brought back to court again on Tuesday. 

Stating that he was a student in the country with a legal status, police requested that he be released on bail.

The judge released him on bail on the condition that he is banned from travelling abroad until his trial, pay a cash bail of 20,000 TL and visit the nearest police station four days a week.
