Six people arrested for living illegally in north Cyprus

Six people who were found to living in north Cyprus illegally were detained for 20 days until trial.

The individuals, MBM, AAW, MOG, CCA, HYE and DT who were identified and arrested during an operation conducted the police in Lefkosia during the week, were brought before a court judge on Thursday on charges of illegal residency.

Police explained that the suspect MBM was detected in the Marmara region by a police team affiliated with the Lefkosia Police Department at around 12:30pm on July 6, 2024. It was determined that he had been staying in the TRNC without a residence permit for a total of 585 days since November 29, 2022.

The suspects AAW, MOG, CCA and HYE were identified during a search conducted by Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Department teams in a house in Göçmenköy at around 3:00pm on July 9, 2024.

During the immigration check, it was determined that AAW had resided without a permit for a total of 968 days as of November 14, 2021, MOG for a total of 1,141 days as of May 25, 2021, CCA for a total of 588 days as of November 29, 2022 and HYE for a total of 770 days as of May 31, 2021.

The suspect DT was also identified when he came to the Lefkosia Police Department Immigration Branch to obtain an entry-exit record at around 2:40pm on July 9, 2024. 

During immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had been residing in the TRNC without permit for a total of 1,526 days.

Police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspects be sent to prison.

The judge ordered that the suspects be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
