Police officer arrested in south Cyprus for raping wife

A Greek Cypriot police officer has been suspended as he faces a criminal trial for domestic violence and raping his wife.

According to report on Thursday, the wife of the officer reported him earlier this month leading to his arrest and detention .

“This is a case of domestic violence, we cannot say much. He was suspended immediately and a disciplinary investigation is underway,” said a police spokesperson to the media

According to Reporter, the case been sent to Nicosia’s criminal court for trial with an order he is held in custody.

The reason cited is fear he may influence his wife or another witness.

The officer appealed the decision.
