Man caught with 20 grams of cocaine at crossing point in Lefkosia

A man who was caught smuggling grams of cocaine from the south to the north of Cyprus, was arrested and sent to prison.

The suspect named only as HM was identified and arrested at the Kermiya crossing point in Lefkosia to the north of Cyprus on Wednesday July 17.

He was taken to court on Thursday charged with "Importing and Possessing Narcotics."

Police said his vehicle was stopped and searched as he was crossing from the Kermiya crossing point in Lefkosia and during the search, 20 grams of cocaine-type drugs were seized in his trouser pocket.

The items were taken as evidence.

The police reported that the suspect said in his statement stated that he bought the drugs from a wanted person in the south of Cyprus for 1,500 Euros in order to sell them.

Noting that the investigation had just begun, that the drugs would be sent for analysis, and that the suspect's statement would be investigated, the police requested that he be detained for one day initially.
