Man arrested for impersonating his brother

A man who tried to mislead the police for using his brother's driver's license during a traffic check in Gönyeli, was arrested. 

The incident happened at around 6:16pm on July 21, 2024 following a police check on Atatürk Street in Gönyeli. 

The suspect, identified only as AF, a Yemeni national was arrested and taken to court on Monday July 29 on charges of obtaining records through fraudulent means.

Police officer who spoke in court said the suspect who was stopped during a traffic control tried to mislead the teams by using his brother's driver's license. 

The suspect introduced himself as his brother SF, who is abroad, showed the teams his driver's license and ensured that the traffic ticket was written in his brother's name. 

Police reported that the suspect was arrested on July 27 after it was understood that he was impersonating his brother. 

Police stated that there were statements to be taken and camera footage to be examined, and requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.

The suspect, who spoke after the police said he did not go to his country for summer school but stayed here, that he had exams soon and that his school would be disrupted if he remained under arrest.
