Holidaymaker who fell asleep while on the sea was dragged by the wind 2 miles deep into the sea

A holidaymaker, who fell asleep on the sea bed in Saros Gulf in Edirne, Turkiye was later found sleeping approximately 2 miles offshore during a search.

The unidentified man went to the beach of Yayla village for a holiday when he fell asleep on the sea bed.

While asleep, he was dragged towards the open by the strong wind and waves. When his relatives on the beach could not see the seabed or the man after a while, they asked for help from the operator of the facility where they were located.

Facility operator Mustafa Altunhan and his relatives set out to sea by boat and reached the holidaymaker who was still sleeping on the sea bed approximately 2 miles offshore.

The person, who continued to sleep on the sea bed, woke up when his relatives called out to him.

After being woken up, the holidaymaker was taken to the boat and then taken to the shore.

Mustafa Altunhan said that they experienced a similar incident in June last year and rescued a person who was drifting about 4 miles from the shore with the sea bed. Altunhan noted that caution should be exercised at sea on windy and wavy days.
