Greek Cypriot police investigating death of six-year-old Nigerian girl
Police in Paphos, south Cyprus said they are investigating the sudden death of a six-year-old Nigerian girl.
The girl was living with her parents, who are asylum seekers from Nigeria, and had “been dealing with various health problems since birth” Paphos police’s assistant operations director Michalis Nikolaou said.
She had had her tonsils and adenoids removed at the Paphos general hospital on Wednesday, before being discharged on Thursday.
It is reported that at some point, she then “lay down in her house and fell asleep without waking up again”.
The child was found unresponsive in her bed on Friday morning by her parents.
She was taken late on Thursday night to the Paphos general hospital’s accident and emergency department and pronounced dead.
The police say there is no suspicion of criminal activity.
