Garage worker steals money from place of worker: arrested and detained

An foreign national has been arrested and detained by the police in north Cyprus for allegedly stealing cash from a garage service where he works. 

The suspect, MZ, a Pakistan national was arrested on Saturday from stealing from his place of work located in Lefkosia. He was taken to the Lefkosia district court on Sunday on charges of theft.

The suspect committed the crime between April 29, 2024 and July 12, 2024.

Police told the court that the suspect opened a building by secretly entering the car service garage where he was working and operated by one K.B. between April 29, 2024 and July 12, 2024, after it was closed.

Police said he entered the building by opening the aluminum window of the locked office room in the workplace with a screwdriver without damaging it, and after entering inside, he opened the locked first upper drawer of the 3-compartment nightstand table made of wood in the office room of the workplace with a screwdriver without damaging it, and took a total of $400 and 7,000 TL in cash.

Police said during the dates, he stole (200 Dollars, 200 Dollars, 5000 TL and 2000 T).

Police said that they received information about the incident on July 13, 2024, and that the suspect was arrested in accordance with a pending warrant received within the scope of the investigation launched.

The police reported that the screwdriver that was believed to have been used in the incident was seized as evidence after the suspect showed it, and that he subsequently gave a voluntary statement, but that it needed to be confirmed and denied. 

The police also stated that the examination of the camera footage taken was ongoing and requested that he be detained for 3 days for the purpose of investigation.
