Four students arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit

Four foreign nationals who were found to be living illegally in north Cyprus were arrested and brought to court where they were ordered to 20 days in prison.

The four individuals named only as CFO, UCU, EAU, who are Nigerians and AS, a Zimbabwean were identified and arrested 8:45pm on Tuesday July 16 at an apartment on Turgut Fahri Street, Küçük Kaymaklı Şht., in Lefkoşa during an operation carried out by a team of narcotics and Crime Prevention Branch teams patrolling patrolling Küçük Kaymaklı Şehit Hüseyin Ruso Street in Lefkoşa.

The arrested individuals were brought to a court in Lefkosia on Wednesday.

Police said it was determined that CFO, who resides at the address in question, had been residing in the TRNC without permit for a total of 230 days since 29.11.2023, and UCU had been residing in the TRNC for a total of 230 days since 29.11.2023.

The suspect EAU who was identified in Şehit Hüseyin Ruso Street was determined to had been residing in the TRNC without permit for a total of 960 days since 29.11.2021.

Police noted that AS who was detected in Ortaköy was determined to had been in the TRNC without a residence permit for 230 days as of 29.11.2023. 

Police stated that the investigation was completed and requested that the suspects be sent to prison.

The judge ordered that the suspects be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
